Polyurethane tape is a better choice because it is much more resilient and forgiving. Microfibre tape is very difficult to break but it is also very stiff, so it takes more time, strength and care to wrap the bars cleanly, while leather is even more difficult to work with.

Can you reuse bike bar tape?

Yep, you can reuse the tape. Unless you’re getting a brand new zooty Euro rig, in which case you would want to deck out the bike with new tape. If you’re just swaping the bar, though, go for it. Use electrical tape to start and finish the wrap job.

What size bar tape should I get?

Bar tape comes in a variety of thicknesses to suit feel and comfort. The most common range is around 1.5mm to 4mm, although there are options outside of this, and the general rule is the greater the thickness, the greater the comfort.

What is the thinnest handlebar tape?

Typically, bar tape thickness varies between 2 mm for the most lightweight and 5 mm (not including extra gel pads) for the most hardcore road conditions, including cobbles. Apart from significantly reducing the weight of the bar setup, thin handlebar tapes generally offer better handling and feel of the bars.

Most handlebar tapes are made from one of three different materials: cork, leather, ora synthetic materials. If you’re after a really luxurious feel, then leather or cork are hard to beat, however they are often more expensive than synthetic options.
