5. Odette’s curse. Siegfried is immediately enraptured and, as the pair dance, he learns her story: she is the princess Odette who, during daylight, is condemned to be a swan, along with the other girls, after being cursed by evil sorcerer von Rothbart, who is also Siegfried’s mentor. At night they become women again.

Who is Rothbart?

Rothbart is the main antagonist of The Swan Princess. He is an evil sorcerer, who is 49, and he mastered the Forbidden Arts twice and he always dreams of marrying Odette so that he can conquer King William’s kingdom.

Is the Black Swan evil in Swan Lake?

In some productions, Odile is known as “The Black Swan” and rather than magically disguised as her, is Odette’s evil twin or double, an example of this type of portrayal is seen in the production by The Bolshoi Ballet.

What is the tragic ending of Swan Lake?

Rather than remain a swan forever, Odette chooses to die. Siegfried chooses to die with her and they leap into the lake, where they will stay together forever. This breaks Rothbart’s spell over the swan maidens, causing him to lose his power over them and he dies.

Who is the villain in Black Swan?

Odile is the black swan maiden and the secondary antagonist in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Her opposite is Odette, the white swan maiden, who is the heroine of the ballet while Odile is the antagonist.

How are Odile and Odette different?

Because the character of Odile is actually the evil Von Rothbart’s daughter magically disguised as Odette, the two roles are most often portrayed by the same dancer, but occasionally they are danced by two different dancers in the same performance.

Why was she bleeding at the end of Black Swan?

It turns out that Nina hallucinated the fight with (and subsequent murder of) Lily, and actually stabbed herself while in the throes of a psychotic episode. But this doesn’t stop Nina from performing the role she’s worked so hard to attain. Bleeding, she returns to the stage to perform the last act of the show.
