The Difficulty Index is the proportion or probability that candidates, or students, will answer a test item correctly. Generally, more difficult items have a lower percentage, or P-value.

What does an item difficulty index of 1.0 indicate?

Item discrimination is measured in a range between -1.0 and 1.0. Negative discrimination indicates that students who are scoring highly on the rest of the test are answering that question wrong. This could mean that there is a problem with the question, such as bias or even a typo in the answer key.

What is the difference between item difficulty index and item discrimination index?

Item difficulty is the percentage of learners who answered an item correctly and ranges from 0.0 to 1.0. The closer the difficulty of an item approaches to zero, the more difficult that item is. The discrimination index of an item is the ability to distinguish high and low scoring learners.

How is item difficulty calculated?

Calculating Item Difficulty Count the total number of students answering each item correctly. For each item, divide the number answering correctly by the total number of students. This gives you the proportion of students who answered each item correctly. This figure is called the item’s difficulty level.

What do you mean by the value 0.25 difficulty index on a test item?

How do you interpret item discrimination index?

If an item has a discrimination index of 0, it indicates it is not discriminating at all – i.e. the same number of people in the higher group got it correct as in the lower group. Whether that is an issue will depend both on the type of item and what proportion of candidates overall got it correct (the mean).

Highest-level problems are those most difficult to solve and it’s VUCA – the amount of volatility, unfamiliarity, complexity and ambiguity posed by a problem – that determines difficulty. The higher the VUCA, the more difficult the problem.

Why is cod Veteran so hard?

Call of Duty is possibly the hardest game in the series to complete on Veteran difficulty, due to the lack of health regeneration (or health packs, for that matter) and large number of enemies that can kill the player with two shots (one if it’s a tank or armed vehicle).

The item discrimination index measures how well a test question can help examiners differentiate between test takers who have attained mastery of the material and those who have not.

How does the difficulty index affect difficulty?

The larger the percentage getting an item right, the easier the item. The higher the difficulty index, the easier the item is understood to be (Wood, 1960).
