Mixes outside air with the climate control. Most useful in the winter when you are using the heat. Open then air mix and it will mix the outside cool air to keep your head/face area cooler. Some people have it open and it will stop the car from getting warm enough for them. LOL.

Can servo motors be repaired?

Servo motor repair is claimed by many but mastered by few! There are many steps involved in repairing servo motors; the trickiest step is in the feedback repair and realignment.

What does an air blend door actuator do?

The blend door actuators, also called HVAC actuators, control the position of the vents that control the flow of air into your vehicle’s passenger area. When the blend door actuators are not working properly, this can result in the heating or the air conditioning failing to enter the passenger area.

What causes the defrost not to work?

When a front defroster stops working, it’s usually a faulty switch or blend door if air comes out of the other vents or a bad blower motor if no air comes out of the vents.

What are the types of servomotor?

Servo motors come in many sizes and in three basic types. The three types include positional rotation, continuous rotation, and linear.

How do you troubleshoot a servo motor?

Make sure to clean or remove particles, dry out any plugs and check all cables. Check for a bind in the axis or if the brushes are worn down in the DC motor. Use a volt ohm meter to check for an incoming power supply. You’ll mainly want to test the servo drive to ensure the voltage is correct.

Why do servo motors fail?

Foreign debris in your servo motor can cause many of the same issues as moisture and accelerate the motor’s deterioration. Additionally, build ups of dirt can block or jam parts—in particular fans, which can then lead to overheating, another leading cause of servo motor failure mentioned above.

Are there air mix servo motor problems in Toyotas?

There is a rash of air mix servo motor failures in the 2001-2009 model Toyotas. In the last year, I’ve had bad ones on my 2003 4Runner, my wife’s 2004 4Runner and yesterday my Dad’s 2002 Avalon.

What does the servo do on an air conditioner?

The purpose of the servo is to mix cool air from the A/C or outside with warm air from the heater to match the temperature you have set. The white lever has a travel of 90 degrees. One extreme is all cold air (no hot air mix), and the other extreme is all hot air.

How can I Make my servo make a noise?

For the servo to make the noise, it has to be in the middle region between the two extremes. This is generally when the set temp is close to the actual temp. You can try moving your set temp from very cold to very hot and watch the white lever move from one extreme to the other.

How do I replace the servo on my air conditioner?

Remove the white plastic air duct by removing one screw on the bottom and a plastic tab on the top. Remove 3 screws that hold the servo with a stubby phillips screwdriver.
