Is T molding the same as transition?
T-moldings are used to create a transition between two floors of equal thickness. For example, in a room that’s running over 40 feet in length, we recommend a transition molding to divide the floor and introduce an expansion gap (hidden by the T-molding) within a reasonable distance for structural stability.
Where can I find matching T molding?
The simple solution to matching moldings
- Know what transition pieces you’ll need.
- Know which direction the boards will be running next to your moldings.
- Plan ahead to have the flooring and moldings at the job site.
- Set your matched flooring boards and moldings aside.
What is T Mold transition?
A T-Mold is a decorative molding used to transition your engineered hardwood floor between two surfaces that are equal in height. This floor transition molding is often used in thresholds between two rooms with the same floor.
How much space do you need for T-molding?
Leave a 1-inch space on the floor to accommodate the base of the T-molding strip. This will provide adequate space for installing the base of the T-molding and provide a smooth transition between flooring materials, and there won’t be a visible gap between the T-molding and the flooring.
Do I need a reducer or T-molding?
Reducer moldings are used when two floors of slightly different thicknesses come together, such as a laminate floor and a wood, vinyl, ceramic or low-pile carpet floor. For floor transitions of more extreme, unequal height differences, you’ll need to use an end molding.
Can I glue a transition strip?
Two-part epoxy adhesives are great for a strong bond to a variety of surfaces. Hot melt adhesives and urethane adhesives are also commonly used for transition installations.
