RTL-SDR (RealTek) is a low-cost USB device that can be used as a computer-based radio for receiving live radio signals. Depending on the RTL-SDR it could receive frequencies from 500 kHz up to 1.75 GHz.

What is the bandwidth of the rtl2832 chip?
For comparison, a consumer FM radio signal has a bandwidth of around 120kHz, and a TV signal (with audio) is 6-8MHz. The RTL2832 chip does not perform any RF tuning itself, so it must be paired with a suitable tuner chip to enable signal reception. Is there a DAB player for RTL2832U dongles?
A new Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) player has been released for RTL2832U dongles (Link text is in German use Google Translate to translate). This player uses the official drivers and not the RTL-SDR drivers, although we believe the DAB demodulation is still done in software.
Does the DVB-usb-rtl28xxu driver work with Ubuntu?
In Ubuntu 13.10 the 3.11 kernel is available with the dvb-usb-rtl28xxu driver out of the box. Another user has tested the stick with Ubuntu and OpenELEC distributions with kernel 3.14 and the device works out of the box ok.
